YOUR OLD STANDBY FONTS might do the job, but your work will grab more eyes if the type is unique. Here are a few of our hidden favorites from the FontShop vaults. Reap the benefits of useful faces that rarely get used.

Award-winning FF Clifford™, by type master Akira Kobayashi, is one of the few digital fonts with separate "cuts" designed for use in specific settings. Use the low-contrast Clifford Six for small text and Nine for body copy. Their sturdy weights and proportions were designed to maintain readability. Meanwhile, Eighteen features more refined detail for headlines.

Herb Lubalin took his very popular Avant Garde and added serifs. The result is ITC Lubalin Graph™, a clean technical slab with enough styles to serve any need. The Extra Light always shines when set huge.

Take a trip to medieval Europe with Linotype Dala™. Bo Berndal's Scandinavian blackletter is a gentler take on the gothic form, and comes with folk art dingbats and borders that beguile and amuse.

Like FF Clifford, Arnhem™ is a gorgeous serif with size-specific cuts (Arnhem for body copy, Arnhem Fine for heads). Its roots are in the French metal types of the 1700s, but it's carefully drawn for digital use by celebrated Dutch designer Fred Smeijers.

ITC Musica™ is a lively up-tempo number, but not lacking in elegance and class. Its delicate thin lines require that it be used large, but such beauty deserves to dominate the page.

Did you guess the font hinted at in the January calendar? It was FF Strada™. See it in all its glory: download February now!
