It’s been a big year for all of us here at FontShop. Given our longstanding traditions of excellence in type and type education, we’re devoting this entire issue to the past year’s stand-out fonts. Our list of favorites is so long, this year’s Best-of reads like a high-school yearbook of high achievers. We now present FontShop’s Class of 2012.

The charming casual sans/script Romeo is the perfect love-match for slender Julieta. Together they form a condensed couple full of swashy love.

Named in honor of Edward Johnston, the geometric sans serif works admirably in posters and leaflets encouraging collaboration and community spirit.

The overdose on alternates and swashes that pop up in the sign painters’ script Storefront always has the class in stitches.

Written with a steel-nibbed pen, this traditional script inspired by the Palmer Method looks lovely on hand-sewn garments and in interior decoration.

With its attractive rounded serifs, Henriette is a curvaceous beauty in regular, slim and extra slim shapes that is sure to turn some heads.
