Free offer no longer available but you can still test and purchase Arnhem Bold.

Dutch letter master Fred Smeijers of OurType originally designed Arnhem for a newspaper, so it’s especially useful for lots of text at small sizes. The bold weight of this functionally beautiful face is temporarily free.

TypeCon2005

presented by SOTA with the TDC
Parsons School of Design, NYC

FontShop is a proud Headline Sponsor of TypeCon2005, an event starring such luminaries as Ed Benguiat, Alexander Isley, Paula Scher, and FontShop’s own Erik Spiekermann and Neville Brody. TypeCon2005 explores the heyday of photolettering, the work of Eric Gill, graffiti and tattoo lettering, the Typophile Film Festival, and more. FontFont’s FiFFteen exhibition also debuts during TypeCon — come see us in New York!

Test Type at FontShop.com

Our font sampling system is so advanced we could call it something flashy like “The Type Taster” or “AlphaVision Pro” and give it its own window. But we believe custom showings should be a seamless part of the selection process. That’s why, no matter where you are on FontShop.com, you can customize the font display. Just type your own text in the field at the top of the page.

Dive deeper at the Font Detail level, where you get a text setting and character map. Crank the sample all the way up to 388 pts(!) for inspecting the subtlest of curves and the smallest of serifs.

Save Sample for Comping

Once you’ve found the perfect font, email the custom URL you’ve generated to a client, or drag and drop the sample image for comping.

New Foundry: Mark Simonson Studio

Coquette
Mostra
Felt Tip Roman

Mark Simonson’s impressive design resume spans many decades and disciplines. He has defined the look of various magazines and acted as art director for Minnesota Public Radio and Garrison Keillor. Lettering was always a key element in his work, and in 1992 he set out to create digital type influenced by history and his unique style. All of his fonts are delightfully usable and distinctly Simonson.

The charismatic Coquette resembles a happy marriage between a geometric sans and a French upright script. Il est adorable.

Mostra is based on a style of lettering often seen in Italian Art Deco posters and advertising of the ’30s. Each multifaceted weight comes with three alternates.

Felt Tip Roman is Simonson’s handwriting and his most popular font. It’s been used to promote everything from Marriott to Memento. He recently expanded the Felt Tip family with his Woman and Senior variations.

New Foundry: Fountain

Zanzibar
Mayo

Delicato

Fountain is one of the best kept secrets in fontdom. Tucked away in the quaint Swedish town of Malmö, Peter Bruhn has managed to attract some of the world’s most inventive type designers to his friendly foundry. Bruhn is an excellent fontographer himself, the author of dozens of unusual and useful alphabets dating back to the early ’90s.

Gábor Kóthay’s Zanzibar represents the convergence of three cultures — European, African, and Moorish. Encounter exotic trade and historical diversity through its baroque swashes, calligraphic flourishes, spicy arabic handwriting, and botanical ornaments.

Mayo is half typeface, half dingbat. Its charming borders, banners, and arrows transform design from a burden into a joy. It's the perfect font for web graphics, invitations, or logos with a fanciful flair.

After spending years experimenting with display fonts, Stefan Hattenbach switched gears to create a functional text face. Italian for “delicious,” Delicato is a savory fusion of the classic and the modern.
