FontShop makes it easy to find, test, and download fine type, but what really matters is what you do with that font file once it hits your hard drive. Typography is a beautiful but complex craft. Sometimes you need a little design advice, a software tip, or simply a flash of inspiration. Well, you can rely on us for that too. In addition to the batch of new fonts that you’ve come to expect from each newsletter, this week we bring two announcements from the editorial arm of the FontShop team.
But first, a long-awaited FontFont announcement … |

The FontFont library is known for its groundbreaking text typefaces of multiple weights, each with a full complement of small caps, figure sets, and expert characters. But, until now, very few of these large families could be had in one all-inclusive package. We’re pleased to announce eleven bestselling typefaces are now available as FF Collections — discounted family packs, nearly all in the convenient and powerful OpenType format.
Get more. Spend less. We truly want to encourage everyone to have complete FontFont families, so we priced these collections to sell. Save up to 20% off the individual package prices.

FF Collections are a great way to upgrade and complete your favorite FFs that you might have in a cluttered mishmash of single weights or legacy versions (PS/TT). Metallophile Sp8
Metallophile Sp8 is a faithful facsimile of an 8-point sans serif typeface as set on a 1940s-vintage hot metal typesetting machine. The effect is very different from its cousin, Futura, which is coldly precise. Mark Simonson’s creation captures some of the characteristic warmth of hot metal, which is particularly refreshing in such a seemingly geometric design. First released in 2003, Metallophile Sp8 is now available in four styles and OpenType format, including prebuilt and automatic arbitrary fractions, extended language support, and alternates like a two-story ‘a’.

The FontFeed
Many of you who are already regular readers of our typography blog, the FontFeed. It had a good run for over three years at its original spot on FontShop.com, but it has grown up quite a bit and it was time to give it a new home. The FontFeed is reborn at FontFeed.com.

|
More voices. More ideas.
Spawned from the creative mind of our founder, Erik Spiekermann, the new FontFeed brings together the typographic insight of three authors: FontShop USA Type Director and Typographica editor Stephen Coles, FontShop Germany’s Jürgen Siebert, and Yves Peters of Unzipped and Typographer.org.
The FontFeed is now a daily dispatch of recommended fonts, typography techniques, and inspirational examples of digital type at work in the real world. Eat up.
