With the new FF60 release, FontFont reaffirms its heritage as an independent, experimental foundry at the forefront of type design. Both FF Marselis and FF ThreeSix are formal explorations in typographic shapes. While FF Marselis’ letterforms largely adhere to convention, FF ThreeSix departs into the resolutely geometric.

FF Marselis

FF Marselis is a dynamic sans serif family marrying geometric and humanistic forms. Open counters aid the reader’s eye along lines of text, and superfluous strokes like the spurs on the ‘b’ and ‘q’ were removed. The alphabet’s diagonals gently bow outward, rendering the capitals more friendly. A teardrop shape in key characters acts as a unifying motif throughout the design. It has the ‘e’ stylistically mirror the ‘a’ and can also be found in the ‘k’ and ‘Q’. This versatile family is as much at ease on posters and in big headlines as in text sizes for extended reading.

FF ThreeSix

FF ThreeSix is an experimental, optical/geometric type system consisting of six typefaces in eight weights. Reminiscent of the modular alphabets of Dutch design legend Wim Crouwel, it explores the possibilities of using systematic principles to generate geometric letterforms. It emulates traditional type design principles by using simple forms within the restrictive rules of geometry. Dimensions and proportions are consistent across all fonts and weights. The resulting typefaces are distinctive at large point sizes but can also be used at smaller sizes for setting body text.

FF Chartwell Web

The much anticipated FF Chartwell Web is here! Back in May we first introduced FF Chartwell’s nonconformist approach to creating charts and graphs: simply type in the numbers and let the font do the rest. Rings, rose, radar, pies, bars, lines, and vertical bar charts, all as easily styled as type, result automatically. Since its release, great interest in the Chartwell family has led to its broadening onto the dynamic medium of the web. Use FF Chartwell Web with static text or real-time data. FF Meta Correspondence Pro

FF Meta Correspondence has been thoroughly updated. The Meta for everyday office use underwent extensive rethinking by its designer Erik Spiekermann, becoming plainer, more robust, and more resilient to the imaging processes common to desktop publishing. The result is a definitive improvement on color and tone, most notably on screen. Thanks to these refinements, FF Meta Correspondence is particularly suited for use as a webfont or for UI text within the mobile environment. Its character set supports Latin, Central European, Greek and Cyrillic languages. Spot it easily with its new (now default) single-story ‘g’.

Featuring FF Scuba

Inspired by the friendly, distinctive character of Felix Braden’s new type family, FF Scuba, and the latest EP from rising-star recording artist Tourist, FontFont produced a dreamy music video. In collaboration with Jonas Kaminski they visualized the poppy electronica, combining footage of water in different contexts with geometric shapes and excerpts from Lewis Caroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
