In Use: Neo Sans for Intel

Oops, looks like whoever created the custom font for Intel forgot to kern the ‘Ye’ pair.
Intel has rebranded and is now using a font, “Neo Sans Intel”, which combines modified versions of Sebastian Lester’s Neo Sans and Neo Tech.
The modern typefaces do an excellent job in helping Intel appear hip and forward-looking. The fonts’ rounded corners and stemless glyphs, such as the ‘a’, ‘n’, ‘r’, ‘u’, and ‘d’ were popularized a few years ago by designs like FF Cocon and FF Dax.

Ay caramba!?! What a shoddy job they did on the kerning of that customised version! It’s inconsistent as heck!

It’s not the kerning Yves, which is largely the same as in Neo Sans. I think the graphic designer must have used tracking to try and accommodate the runner and ended up spacing the letters himself to get them to fit across the image.

Hello Sebastian! Thanks for visiting. The biggest problem with this image is the ‘Ye’ pair which is far too loose. Here’s your kerning. Perhaps they found yours too tight and overcompensated. A lot.
Nevertheless, the new fonts look great on their site. Congrats on Neo’s success.

Thanks Stephen!

Stephen, thanks for this. I took a look at the new Brand identity PDF. The logo looks quite a bit better than the gifs I was seeing, but the e still looks not right to my eyes. I am not a huge swoosh fan at all. The product line badges and all are a real improvement to my eye. I do like Neo Sans and it seems appropriate for the application. Congratulations Sebastian on Neo in the big-time.

Looks like there is another large tech company using the Neo fonts as well. Expedient Communications started using it the first of the year.
