In his own words: “I consider myself first and foremost to be a type designer. It is a calling and a tradition that I feel extremely fortunate to be a part of. In a larger sense, letters and their place in history have inspired me since I began praciticing calligraphy more than 25 years ago. In the open-air museums (i.e. streets, public spaces, architecture) of Italy’s major cities, I’ve found a personal connection to this rich past. Paul Shaw and I have been developing historical typefaces based on lettering we’ve unearthed from our travels and research. I’m feeling increasingly drawn to paleography and epigraphy. I’m not sure where it is all going for me, but in the mean time, organizing and managing the Legacy of Letters tour is central to this passion. Thanks for deciding to participate with this year’s tour, and helping to feed the presumption that it’s a worthwhile endeavor!”
