Phil Baines graduated from St Martin’s School of Art in 1985 and the Royal College of Art in 1987. He works as a freelance graphic designer mainly for small publishers and art organisations. His personal work has often produced letterpress, including the self-published SToneUTTERS (1992). He designed typographic sequences for several TV commercials. Since September 1991 he has also taught typography part-time at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design in London and is currently Typographic Advisor to the Central Lettering Record CD-Rom project.
