The four designs of the Alfie family can be paired to build hierarchy and drama, or used on their own to create everything from social announcements and packaging to short blocks of text copy and subheads to navigational links and banners.
Each design is lively, friendly, inviting and easy on the eyes. Alfie Script is a vivacious connecting script with a touch of comfortable elegance. Alfie Casual is a little more laid-back with letters standing on their own. Alfie Small Caps adds a handy suite of small caps to Alfie Casual, while Alfie Informal is a bit on the quirky side – but in a good way.
There’s a hand-drawn charm to words and messages set in this suite of designs.
A bit of calligraphic practice was Jim Ford's inspiration for Alfie. He was trying out new brush pen and filled several pages in a notebook in the process. At one point, Ford realized that there might be a typeface among the letters. He was right. In fact, there were four. The process wasn’t about choosing one design and modifying it. The foundation for all the designs was in those pages. It was just a matter of culling out the right characters to building the quartet of Alfie flavors.
