Fakt Soft supports 108 different languages such as Spanish, English, Portuguese, German and French in Latin scripts. (Please note that not all languages are available for all formats.)
OurType Fakt Soft is designed by Thomas Thiemich and is the third member of the Fakt family, joining the original sans serif – Fakt and its slab companion – Fakt Slab.
That Fakt now has a 'soft' option is nothing more than historically smart. Just like with Sansa Soft, rounding the corners off a sans serif follows a long tradition, one that begins in the 1830's when – together with shadowing – softening became one of the first effects ever applied to sans serifs. Today, rounding may seem little more than a cliché, but it is compelling nonetheless and in skilful hands holds its freshness. And, Fakt Soft is exactly that – a subtle stylistic companion to the already smart sans serif superfamily. Fakt Soft integrates Fakt's stylistic 'toggle' that enables users to switch between grotesk and geometric sans serif 'moods', but now with soft effects. So like normal Fakt, Fakt Soft intelligently updates tradition with today's tools and techniques.
Fakt Soft consists of eight weights: Thin, Light, Blond, Normal, Medium, SemiBold, Bold, Black of roman and italic designs, built around three widths: Normal, SemiCondensed and Condensed. The thinest weights of Fakt – Air and Hair – are not included in Fakt Soft, for perhaps obvious reasons. Otherwise, Fakt Soft weights correspond to those of the remaining Fakt family.
The character set comprises small caps; lining, oldstyle and small cap figures (each in tabular and proportional widths); fractions; comprehensive superiors, inferiors, nominators and denominators; case sensitive punctuation sets; mathematical and monetary symbols; arrows; standard and discretionary ligatures; a set of stylistic alternates; and a complete range of accents for all Western, Central and East European languages based on the Latin script.
