FF Brokenscript is a small blackletter series designed by Just van Rossum. Here is what Jan Middendorp wrote about FF Brokenscript in his book Dutch Type (2004): “It is a study in Fraktur, or blackletter, possibly inspired by Gerrit Noordzij’s extensive writings on the subject.” One of the first blackletters in the FontFont library, this design takes a lot of cues from the very early textura writing style. The letterforms have been somewhat modernized, though, especially the uppercase. This series feels very contemporary and cool, rather than medieval and morbid.
All in all, there are four fonts in this series. Van Rossum drew two families: FF Brokenscript and FF Brokenscript Rough. Each family includes a regular and a condensed version. Each of the fonts has a peace symbol included in its character set, which is really kind of far out, if you think about it!
FF Brokenscript supports 63 different languages such as Spanish, English, Portuguese, German and French in Latin scripts. (Please note that not all languages are available for all formats.)
