FontShop was founded by Joan and Erik Spiekermann as a mail order company for digital typefaces in 1989. For more than twelve years FontShop Germany has been developing custom fonts for corporate design and brands. After many years of experience in the corporate and office market FontShop Germany released their first commercial corporate font family “Axel”, especially suitable for table calculation.

In 2014, FontShop has been aquired by Monotype.
