Inspired by the Grotesk faces of the 1920s, most directly by Erbar, FF Instanter was designed to be a dynamic sans serif face. In spite of its liveliness and similarity to handwriting, FF Instanter is extremely legible, even in very small point sizes.
The 1920s origins are most apparent in the capital letters (A, C, N). Designer Frank Heine’s goal was to develop a dynamic sans. Although there is a touch of functionalism, the face he created has a distinct and lively character of its own, particularly because of the writing-style strokes in the m, n, and r, and asymmetrical strokes in v, w, y.
